2013 FIFA Confederations Cup: Semi-Finals – Brazil vs Uruguay / Highlights

2013 FIFA Confederations Cup: Semi-Finals – Spain vs Italy / Highlights

Preview (6-14-2013):

The FIFA Confederations Cup is considered one of the top three, International Soccer Tournaments (World Cup, Confederations Cup, Euro Cup) in the world. This tournament is played one year before the FIFA World Cup and takes place at the host nation (Brazil) of the World Cup. Brazil has won two consecutive Confederations Cup Finals and the host nation probably expects a third championship. This will be a nice preview of what we might see out of each nation in the 2014 World Cup. The eight teams playing in this year’s 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup are, Brazil (Host Nation), Spain (UEFA 2010 FIFA World Cup Champions), Tahiti (OFC 2012 Nations Cup), Nigeria (CAF 2013 African Cup of Nations), Mexico (CONCACAF 2011 Gold Cup), Uruguay (CONMEBOL 2011 Copa America), Italy (UEFA EURO 2012 Runner-Up) and Japan (AFC 2011 Asian Cup). Obviously some of these teams might not make the World Cup, but nevertheless, it’ll be great competition. In 2009, Brazil defeated the United States, 3-2 in the Confederations Cup Final, which took place in South Africa. Spain ended up winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup over the Netherlands.

Neymar is the big name to watch for in this tournament, the young Brazilian star recently signed with Barcelona and has huge expectations. Spain has won the last three major International Tournaments, (2012 Euro, 2010 World Cup, 2008 Euro) so the other 7 nations are hoping it’s their country that’ll knock off Spain from their run of championships.
